Antique Khmer Style Southeast Asia Bronze Four Way Buddha Statue - 51cm/20"
Measures (Height) 51cm/20"
A master class in the ancient Cambodian art of bronze casting.
This stunning bronze presents four antique Khmer style Cambodian Buddhas with hand positions or mudra that represent Meditation, Protection, Enlightenment and double enlightenment.
The sculpture is cast from two separate but interlocking pieces. Four Buddha seated around a classic Khmer stupa, with the Naga serpent either side of each Buddha to offer protection.
The Buddha are seated in a beautifully cast lotus flower. The petals, stem and seed pods of this significant flower, in Buddhism, are expertly crafted. The lotus flower is an emblem of purity, enlightenment, and spiritual rebirth. Offering a profound lens through which Buddhists contemplate the nature of existence, the path to enlightenment, and the beauty that can arise from adversity.
As practitioners embark on their spiritual journey, the lotus stands as a timeless reminder of the transformative power of purity, the cyclical nature of life, and the potential for spiritual rebirth.
In the serene elegance of the lotus, Buddhists find not just a symbol, but a living testament to the enduring beauty that emerges from the depths of the human spirit.
Each of the four Buddha seated on the lotus flower bear their own significance within the Buddhist tradition.
Meditation Buddha
The Meditation Buddha, also known as Dhyana Mudra or Samadhi Mudra, is an iconic representation of the Buddha in a contemplative and meditative posture. This image holds deep significance within Buddhist tradition, conveying essential teachings and embodying the virtues of inner peace, mindfulness, and spiritual reflection.
Protection Buddha
In the serene world of Buddhist iconography, the Abhaya Buddha emerges as a symbol of fearlessness and compassion. The gentle gesture of the raised hand, offering reassurance and protection, distinguishes this representation of the Buddha.
The peaceful countenance of Lord Buddha exudes harmony. The Abhaya mudra "gesture of fearlessness" is a mudra (gesture) that offers protection, reassurance and safety.
Dispelling fear and according divine protection and bliss in many Indian religions. The hand is held upright, and the palm is facing outwards. This is one of the earliest mudras found depicted on a number of Hindu, Buddhist and Jain images.
The Abhaya Buddha is characterized by a specific mudra, or hand gesture, known as the Abhaya Mudra. In this gesture, the right hand is raised with the palm facing outward, fingers extended upwards, and the arm positioned at shoulder height. The Abhaya Mudra symbolizes fearlessness, protection, and the dispelling of fear.
Enlightenment Buddha
The Enlightenment Buddha, also known as the Buddha in the moment of enlightenment or the Earth-touching Buddha, is a profound and revered image in Buddhism. This depiction captures a pivotal moment in the life of Siddhartha Gautama, the historical Buddha, as he achieved enlightenment under the Bodhi tree. The Enlightenment Buddha serves as a powerful symbol of the Buddha's awakening and the universal potential for spiritual realization.
Each Buddha has a peaceful countenance with downcast introspective eyes and a firm brow.
Each has a large ushnisha protuberance on top of his head symbolizing his high level of spiritual development. Their earlobes are stretched long from a youth spent as a prince wearing heavy gold earrings.
The sculpture is mounted on a wood base.
A simply wonderful piece representing the most significant elements of Buddhist teaching.
The sculpture provides the perfect traditional in appearance Buddha to bring serenity and timeless style to your home, office or sacred space.
The casting is beautiful as you can see in the fine details of the fingers and toes. Each detail is rendered perfectly.
The distinctive patina of the piece is also particularly delightful. The four Buddha in a single statue is a most unusual, if not unique piece.
