Measures – (Height) 21cm/8”
An antique Gandhara style Buddha seated in the lotus or Padmasana postion, with each foot placed on the opposite thigh and hands in the Meditation mudra. The large ushnisha protuberance on top of his head symbolizes his high level of spiritual development and is typical of the Gandhara style.
The Buddha has a peaceful countenance with downcast introspective eyes and a firm brow. His earlobes are stretched long from a youth spent as a prince wearing heavy gold earrings.
The Buddha is seated on a highly decorated and ornate pedestal with the hands in the Dhyana mudrā or 'Meditation Position'. This hand gesture promotes the energy of meditation, deep contemplation and unity with higher energy. The Meditation Buddha, also known as Dhyana Mudra or Samadhi Mudra, is an iconic representation of the Buddha in a contemplative and meditative posture. This image holds deep significance within Buddhist tradition, conveying essential teachings and embodying the virtues of inner peace, mindfulness, and spiritual reflection.
His robes cascade fluidly from both shoulders.
A Mandala decorates the throne of the Buddha, a symbol of meditation and serenity.
In various spiritual traditions, mandalas can be used to focus the attention of practitioners and adepts, as a spiritual guidance tool, for establishing a sacred space and as an aid to meditation. In the Eastern religions of Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism and Shinto it is used as a map representing deities, or especially in the case of Shinto, paradises, kami or actual shrines.
A mandala generally represents the spiritual journey, starting from outside to the inner core, through layers.
