Antique Chinese Style Temple Guardian Lions Foo Dogs Imperial Lions (Pair) - 10.5cm/4"
Measures (Height) 10.5cm/4"
A pair of antique Chinese style Temple Guardian lions, Imperial Guardian lions, Shishi Lions or Foo Dogs.
Since the introduction of the lion symbolism from Indian culture especially through Buddhist symbolism, statues of guardian lions have traditionally stood in front of Chinese Imperial palaces, Imperial tombs, government offices, temples, and the homes of government officials and the wealthy, and are believed to have powerful protective benefits.
Each statue is carved in the round to show a strength body with an ornate coiffure with full lips and almond-shaped eyes with incised pupils beneath gently curving brows.
The casting of this piece is beautiful as you can see in the fine details of the face. Each detail is rendered perfectly. The distinctive patina of the piece is also particularly delightful. This traditional in appearance piece is sure to add serenity to your home, office or sacred space.
