An antique early 7th century Phnom Da style stone Vishnu head. Vishnu is both world protector and preserver, restorer of moral order - he is all-powerful and all-pervasive by nature. The deity wears a cylindrical mitre on his head.
A graceful piece with round face, long earlobes, arched eyebrows and slight smile, typical of the Phnom Da period. The Vishnu has perfect balance and proportions which are the key to a fine Vishnu sculpture.
The carving is beautiful as you can see in the fine details of the face. Each detail is rendered perfectly.The details of this piece are particularly appealing.
The Vishnu is loose mounted on a wood base (later).
