Tara Statue - Antique Java Style Indonesian Bronze Devi Tara Statue - 8cm/3"
Measurements Height 8cm/3"
An antique Java Style seated bronze Devi sculpture of Tara, Zhengyi Mithubma, in 13th century Majapahit style.
In Buddhism, Tara is a Bodhisattva. She is the Goddess of Compassion. Here, Tara is seated, in virasana, cross-legged symbol of Serenity, on a round double lotus petal pedestal. The lotus flower represents purity, compassion and the giving of great joy to all.
Zhengyi Mithubma, unconquerable Lady is the seventh of Atisha’s Tara's. Her commanding speech is praised for cutting through negativities and obstacles from internal and external sources – ending wars, subduing natural disasters and mitigating anger, attachment and doubt. A sword wreathed in flames is positioned above her utpala flower.
She wears a richly bejewelled dhotis and upavitas. Her face has a serene downcast gaze.
Tara wears a decorative Javanese style tiara, on her head, in front of her Kirita-Makuta or tall conical crown. This symbolises her control over Positive and Negative attitudes. She has an aquiline nose and elongated earlobes with large earrings.
The sculpture has a wonderful brown malachite patina.

In honoring the Buddha’s Parinirvana, Buddhists and non-Buddhists alike can find inspiration to live mindfully, act compassionately, and seek wisdom in the face of life’s impermanence.
Through these practices, we move closer to the peace and liberation that the Buddha so compassionately exemplified.
