Measures – (Height) 62cm/25"
An antique Sri Lankan style Meditation Buddha.
The Buddha is seated in the Dhyana mudrā or 'Meditation Position'. This hand gesture promotes the energy of meditation, deep contemplation and unity with higher energy.
The Meditation Buddha, also known as Dhyana Mudra or Samadhi Mudra, is an iconic representation of the Buddha in a contemplative and meditative posture. This image holds deep significance within Buddhist tradition, conveying essential teachings and embodying the virtues of inner peace, mindfulness, and spiritual reflection.
As is traditional, the Meditation Buddha is depicted here in a seated posture, with both legs crossed in the half-lotus position. The hands are placed in the Dhyana Mudra, where the right hand rests on top of the left hand, with the thumbs gently touching, forming a subtle triangle or circle. The Buddha's back is straight, and the gaze is lowered, signifying deep concentration and inner reflection.
The Meditation or Dhyana Buddha has a peaceful countenance with downcast introspective eyes and a firm brow. This hand gesture promotes the energy of meditation, deep contemplation and unity with higher energy.
The bodies profile is with broad shoulders and slender waist, covered by a Sanghati robe worn diagonally over the left shoulder, and is graced by a simple pleated flap draped to the navel. The right shoulder is left bare.
The Buddha has a peaceful countenance with downcast introspective eyes and a firm brow. His earlobes are stretched long from a youth spent as a prince wearing heavy gold earrings.
The peaceful countenance of Lord Buddha exudes harmony. Lord Buddha is seated in the full lotus position, the same as when he sat under the Bodhi tree.
The large ushnisha protuberance on top of his head symbolises his high level of spiritual development. The aureole or halo behind his head his divinity. His robe is draped over his left shoulder. His serene face displays down cast eyes, a single arched eyebrow and aquiline nose.
He also has a third eye or urna on his forehead symbolizing the ability of Buddha to see past our mundane universe of suffering. The casting is beautiful as you can see in the fine details of the face and torso. Each detail is rendered perfectly.
The distinctive patina of the piece is also particularly delightful. The sculpture provides the perfect Buddha to bring serenity and timeless style to your home, office or sacred space.

The image of Reclining Vishnu is one of profound beauty and deep symbolism. It encapsulates key concepts in Hindu cosmology: the cyclical nature of time, the balance between creation and dissolution, and the preservation of harmony in the universe.
Vishnu’s serene rest on the endless coils of Ananta Shesha teaches us about the importance of stillness, balance, and surrender in both the cosmic order and our personal lives.
