Antique Indonesian Style Javanese Standing Amoghasiddhi Protection Buddha Statue - 27cm/11"
Measures (Height) 27cm/11"
An Indonesian (Java) Amoghasiddhi Buddha in 13th century Majapahit style. The perfect Buddha for those looking for infallible success or the vanquishing of jealously and envy.
This lovely Buddha is stood on a lotus leaf pedestal which is itself stood on a multi-tiered square highly decorated pedestal. His robe is draped over his left shoulder and cascades in classical waves to the floor. The lower hem of the robe comes all the way down so that the under-cloth or skirt is completely covered.
The pedestal upon which Buddha stands forms an aureole, with flaming border, behind the head of the Buddha. This symbolises his divinity.
The Buddha's right hand faces outwards in the abhaya mudra. The Abhaya mudra "gesture of fearlessness" is a mudra (gesture) that offers protection, reassurance and safety. Dispelling fear and according divine protection and bliss in many Indian religions. His hands are held upright, with the palms facing outwards. This is one of the earliest mudras found depicted on a number of Hindu, Buddhist and Jain images.
His left hand raised in the dharmachakra mudra. In sanskrit dharmachakra means the 'Wheel of Dharma'. This mudra symbolises one of the most important moments in the life of Buddha, the occasion when he preached to his companions the first sermon after his Enlightenment in the Deer Park at Sarnath. It therefore denotes the setting into motion of the Wheel of the teaching of the Dharma. In this mudra the thumb and index finger touch at their tips to form a circle. This circle represents the Wheel of Dharma, or in metaphysical terms, the union of method and wisdom. This symbolises generosity.
He also has a third eye or urna on his forehead symbolizing the ability of Buddha to see past our mundane universe of suffering.
The Amoghasiddhi Buddha represents the accomplishment of all action. His name means 'Infalliable Success". Meditation on Amoghasiddhi Buddha vanquishes envy and jealousy, two often impulsive actions.
